Halifax to Charlottetown, PEI

We realize that the maritime provinces are very easy to drive in and crossing them doesn't take all that long. We left Halifax this morning and headed straight north going through Truro and Amherst before crossing the border into New Brunswick. Then we basically followed the border until we got to the Confederation Bridge.

We enter New Brunswick for a short drive along the border to the Confederation Bridge that will take us across to Prince Edward Island.

Our first sighting of the bridge. The crossing cost is $46.50 however you don't pay until you leave the island.

Very fortunate that it was not foggy which can often be the case.

Woke just in time to watch us cross the bridge. Almost 13 kms long (8 miles). Quite an engineering feat.

Finally Prince Edward Island comes into view.

"All visitors to your left please" says Marley.

Wow, the fields are so red and rich looking.

Very peaceful landscape. Almost pastoral actually.

Planting potatoes. Apparently they export to most of Eastern Canada and the US Eastern seaboard.

Slow, rolling hills and no cliffs.
Downtown Charlottetown with a cruise ship in the harbour. The Holland American Veendam.

So difficult to get a good picture of a typical street. Every corner you come across a new site and view.

The large Catholic Basilica in Charlottetown.

Charlottetown of course is the home of Confederation. It was here that the conference was held and the documents signed bringing the Dominion of Canada into existence.

The original seat of government in this building which is currently undergoing extensive foundation repairs.

The government house with the war memorial in the front.

This Anglican church is across the street from the Basilica. Both churches were open today for visitors.

The ornate, wooden interior of the Anglican Church.

The following pictures are from the interior of the Basilica.

A massive building with amazing art design detail.

Another corner of the Basilica nave.

View from the front of the Basilica looking towards the back and the pipe organ.

The fathers of confederation, John A. McDonald, George E. Cartier and Marley?

Spring is in full bloom here as well.

The Charlottetown harbour.

We booked a cottage just outside of Charlottetown and it was an excellent deal. Purchased some groceries and made dinner that we ate on the porch.

Getting warmer. The temperatures are warming up. Hopefully this trend will continue.
Good night.
