Fishing Lake to Saskatoon

We headed west once again from Fishing Lake towards Saskatoon. We stopped and snooped around towns like Wadena, Quill Lake, Watson and then Muenster. In Muenster we discovered this college and Abby.

The St. Peter's College and Abby entrance.

The college is in this former residential school building that now houses the classrooms, offices and Abby residence.

The Abby Chapel's bell tower.

A lot of very interesting artwork around the halls of the Abby.

A quick peek into the Abby Chapel. The College also hosts retreats and they have a section that is like a small hotel where they have rooms to rent. There was a group of Orthodox priests having a retreat this week.

The view of the exterior of the chapel.
Associated with the college and Abby is this church that is just across the road from the College.

St. Peter's Church is an active parish of the Muenster district. It was built in 1903 and is now a national historic site. The first parishioners came to the district in 1903 and among them were Benedictine monks who came to provide German-speaking priests for settlers, most of whom were second-generation German-Catholics from Minnesota. The colony of Muenster eventually numbered 12,000 Catholics who lived in 50 townships. There are currently about 160 families who worship at St. Peter's church.

Beautifully decorated and well maintained.

The church has the 14 stations of the cross painted around the nave. The church services are currently held in English.

The verse written over the Chancel is the original painted German verse. It is Matthew 16:18 "You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church".

Our next stop was in Humboldt for a fill-up, both gas and food. We ate at this recommended Bistro on Main Street. The food was very good as promised.

Our first stop in Saskatoon was at the apartment complex Luther Heights to visit with Clarence and Doreen Wiebe. Doreen is Lucy's oldest sister.

Their view is east and includes this view of highway #16 coming from the east.

Doreen has been following our trip on Facebook and wanted a picture with the 'world famous' Marley.

Clarence Wiebe just returning from watching a disappointing dog show down in the gardens.

Doreen and Clarence Wiebe. They were all packed and ready to take a road trip to Abbotsford.

Our next stop in Saskatoon is at Lloyd and Delores' home where we plan to spend a couple of nights.
