Gatineau, Quebec

Monday, June 5th, 2017

Unfortunately we left Montreal in rush hour this morning so it took almost an hour to get out of the city. It wasn't only an issue with rush hour but also with all the construction taking place in the city and so many main arteries being blocked. It only took 3 hours to arrived in Gatineau but too early to check into our Airbnb so we decided to visit the Canadian Museum of History to start with.

The is one of the main exhibition halls of the Museum. This one dealt specifically with the first nations of Canada beginning with the West Coast nations especially the Haida Gwaii nation.

These are some of the largest totems poles every carved. Some of them brought here from Haida Gwaii. Marley loved them.

A white marble carving depicting a West Coast Salish ceremonial canoe.

The painting on the ceiling of the rotunda over the main exhibition hall.

Marley, on a beaver pelt throw in a landau in front of a window with Parliament Hill depicted in the background.

In another hall there were dozens of old sleighs and carriages honoring early transportation in Canada.

A view from the second floor of the sculpture over the ticket counter.

Since Gatineau is just across the St. Lawrence from Ottawa I was able to take a picture of Parliament Hill from the patio of the Museum.

An exterior view of the Canadian History Museum, Gatineau.

Another large section was created just for kids. A place to explore, imagine and be involved. ie: Marley as the ticket taker at the Carnival section.

Or a real life old bus in which they could climb and pretend to drive or, as in Marley's case, ride on the hood.

Every kids (and their stuffys) dream.

Our Airbnb for the next couple of nights. Our suite is on the second floor. Very comfortable.

After the day of exploring we had dinner at the British Inn and pub. Great food, great fish and chips.

Enjoyed dinner at this restaurant.

This is a marina on the St. Lawrence very close to were we are staying in Gatineau.

Tomorrow we will visit Ottawa. Marley wants to meet Justin.
