Hike around Signal Hill and Cabot Tower
The start of the hike from the top of Signal Hill down to the cliffs below. Lost count of the number of steps taken but the fit bit said the total hike was over 11,000 and over 80 stories.
Took my turn at the pose as well. The larger entrance to St. John's Harbour behind me.
The Atlantic side of "the Narrows", the main entrance to the St. John's harbour.
The Path takes the shape of the land it runs through.
Many new sets of stairs and boardwalks have been constructed since our last visit. At least you feet stay dryer not having to slog through the streams and puddles.
A freighter negotiates it's way through the Narrows with the Fort Amherst lighthouse on the other side.
The path then takes the small trail along the face of the cliff walking towards the harbour of St. John's.
At one point there is a large chain bolted onto the side of the cliff. It gives one a false sense of security but at least it gives that much.
Lucy stands at the narrowest section of the trail. Look a bit more brave that she was.
Once past the cliff we arrive at the Battery with it's colourful houses nestled into the cliff.
The the St. John's harbour comes into full view. This is one of the most well protected harbours in the world.
The trail takes you over and through some of the private patios and deck in the Battery.
Another look at the Battery.
All along the cliff side there are mounted cannons that were used to guard the entrance to the harbour.
The entrance to the Narrows.
Up near the top of Signal Hill there is a whole row of cannons aimed at the entrance to the harbour.
Back near the top of the hill we look back at were we hiked.
At the top of Signal Hill is Cabot Tower. That's me standing off to the left of the structure. The Tower is open on the first floor only at this time and houses a gift shop as well.
A view from the top of the hill looking towards the main harbour. This is where the cruise ships dock when there visit St. John's.
